Demonic or Malevolent haunts are, in our experience and belief, the only dangerous type of haunt. These entities can be free traveling, or be attached to people, places or objects. Their entire existence is hinged on anger and hatred, and therefore can sometimes manifest in physical oppression and/or violence; however, there is a cycle that they many times will follow.
These hauntings will many times begin with seemingly benign interactions. Sightings of a figure or apparition that appears harmless, voices , noises, and, possibly, mischevious behavior such as moving things around (lost keys, etc.). They will seek to entice the most vulnerable person into a "relationship" using these techniques. Once this has been accomplished, they will begin a "brainwashing", or oppression cycle. The person they have targeted will begin to change, act out in ways that do not match their personality. Many times their wardrobe preference and personal appearance will also change, as well as their taste in music, literature, movies etc. If this cycle is allowed to continue uninterrupted, it can progress into a full blown possession.
At any time up to this point, the cycle can be interrupted by the person who has been targeted. They can excercise their will and break ties with the entity, although the entity probably won't give up that easily, so they will have to stand firm on the decision to break those ties. After possession, to end the haunting, the demon must be exorcised. A person of faith, traditionally a priest, must invoke the name of Jesus and the Laws of God in order to forcefully evict the demon from within the person.
Demonic/Malevolent spirits can also maifest as a phenomena called a familiar spirit. Familiar spirits are a spirit that becomes "familiar" with a certain person. They develop an intimate relationship posing as a spirit guide, or an angel, or some other benign entity. In most cases there is a high level of trust between the person and spirit, allthough this is not necessarily the case. A familiar spirit will generally start out as a seemingly benign friend. As long as the person does what they want, this may never change. If the person ever pulls away or begins to disagree with the spirit, things can then get ugly, with violent physical, mental and emotional oppression. Psychics and certain children with traumatic events in their past are especially prone to familiar spirits.
