The defining characteristic of intelligent hauntings is, well, intelligence. These, unlike residual haunts, are caused by a sensient spirit. As investigators, one of the things that we will look for in an intelligent haunt is interaction. This interaction can take place on many different levels from mischeiviousness, to curiosity, attempts to communicate, and, in the worst case scenario, violent attacks and even possession (only with Demonic hauntings) or just about any level in between. Intelligent haunts can be divided into three categories:
